We worked with Loyalist College & other trainers to create a selection of new learning opportunities for our Members starting in January 2024.

Availability is limited. Space will be allotted based upon need & on a first come, first served basis. All costs are covered by Kijicho Manito Madaouskarini.

Get your Chainsaw Certification

This 2-day, Loyalist College course will provide successful participants with a lifetime Non-Loggers Chainsaw Certificate. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) & a working chainsaw will be provided for the training sessions.

The Harvest Team has arranged for KMM Community Members to learn more about meat processing by observing experienced butcher, Steve Ruddy, prepare fresh-harvested game.

Wild Edibles Foraging Course

This course will teach students how to identify 50-75 different species of plants, trees, shrubs, ferns, and lichens. The course involves an evening seminar at the Bancroft Campus of Loyalist College, followed by a 1-day field practical hike in Bancroft.

Algonquin Consultation 101

This course provides an introduction to Duty to Consult with the Algonquin Nation. Participants will learn about the legal foundations rooted in Section 35 of the Constitution Act, 1982, and relevant Supreme Court rulings. The course covers best practices for culturally sensitive engagement.

Algonquin Consultation 201

This course provides a comprehensive overview of the Duty to Consult with the Algonquin Nation, tailored for government officials and private business representatives. Participants will learn about the legal foundations rooted in Section 35 of the Constitution Act, 1982, and relevant Supreme Court rulings. The course covers best practices for identifying appropriate community representatives, culturally sensitive engagement, and effective documentation. Through case studies and practical exercises, attendees will gain insights into meaningful consultation processes, ensuring their projects and decisions respect Algonquin rights and contribute to sustainable and collaborative development.

Comprehensive two-day Loyalist College course offering first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills for those who need training due to work requirements or who want more knowledge to respond to emergencies at home.

Learn how to find your way in the wilderness using a handheld GPS. The course involves an evening seminar at the Bancroft Campus of Loyalist College, followed by a 1-day field experience within a forest in Bancroft.

Sustainable Trail Building 101

Join Dave Naulls on some of the trails he designed & built at Eagles Nest Park in Bancroft. Learn the basics of sustainable trail building, managing erosion, compaction, environmental best practices & user safety.

Winter Camping & Survival Course

Learn how to camp and survive in cold winter conditions. Experience and learn how to construct an igloo and snow hut, how to setup a hot-tent and woodstove, use of arctic expedition tents, portable sleds, how to select and use snowshoes, plus winter fire and shelter building.
